back online

Posted in Uncategorized on June 30, 2008 by Aaron

The domain went back online this morning, which is pretty cool. This is a rad photo of Brandon Bernadet that he shot himself, spotted on bikeguide. Brandon is an excellent photographer from Kelowna, he also edited a section for us in Romance.

For everyone that rode in the mean streets comp, the video night is going to be Wednesday at 7:00, at David’s house. We’ll watch some other stuff too, including tomorrow we work, the united down under tour, Darrell’s video from Nome and possibly the ADJ video if we can find it (which was apparently pretty awesome, and Maurice edited it on a playstation).

united- down under tour

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2008 by Aaron

Man, this was well done. Down under tour comes free with the new issue of Dig, and is probably the best free video I’ve seen. James Cox put the video together (he edits most of the 4down stuff, and did the Atilla video a couple years ago), he did an excellent job. The titles and graphics are clean and the video flows really well, the filming is on point and the music selection is good. The video is fairly short and broken up into city sections; they visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Adelaide, Melbourne being the highlight as the street there is ridiculous (I’ve walked around that city, it’s everywhere). Most of the United team showed up for this trip, but the obvious standouts are Cory Martinez and Nathan Williams. Martinez is a machine as usual, busting out one ridiculous line after another. Williams is probably my favourite new school big bar kid- he has a way of adding little things to old tricks and combos that makes them cool and new; he also does the biggest hangover rail I’ve ever seen.

As I said before, the video is free with Dig, so there’s really no reason you shouldn’t have it. The issue of Dig that it comes with is great as well with an article about the trip, an interview with Garrett Reynolds (featuring at least some photos that haven’t been in videos), and a feature with this guy Andy Martinez who appears to be incredible.

ryan harley: minus a bike, plus a beaver.

These are the latest things I’ve poached from bmxboard on Ryan. In the last week, he’s had his bike impounded by the police:

And he somehow obtained a wild beaver:

wednesday session/darrell is out

Posted in Uncategorized on June 26, 2008 by Aaron

We had a pretty good session at spenard yesterday, only falling victim to camera/broken record mode for about half an hour. The best part for me was watching David and Wayne do these awesome 1 footer/griz airs like five or six feet out, those guys rule. Darrell swung by the park with his wrist wrapped up, I guess he hurt it the other day at the Boeke session but was on so much ibuprofen from another thing that he didn’t really notice. That guy’s been a treat to ride with this year so hopefully he gets well soon. We are still working on a time and place to close out mean streets. If anyone has any ideas hit me up on myspace, we just need a tv and a house, we could do it at mine but it’s not very convenient for most of you guys…..

sexsmith sequence on macneil

This sequence of Travis was up on the Macneil site today. I haven’t seen that guy in years but he appears to still be an amazing bike rider.

If you’re reading this than you’ve navigated your way through my little domain name problem. Basically, I was lazy and forgot to renew it in time, so it may take a minute to get it back online. In the meantime, spread the word that the site is still accessable through nobikes.wordpress.com
